early process

This is the process I used to get away from the symmetry that I had a problem with.  purple-long term exhibit, green-storage/stageing/offices, yellow-gathering/food prep, pink-gift shop/restrooms/mechanical, blue-short term/entry.  By using this is how I came up with my final plan, which is seen in ...more process... october 4th.

Attempting to come up with a plan that is traditional with small axises(or axi, not sure) off of the main axis

yes they look like anchors.

This plan goes with the following two images.

Display idea of having panels of some material hung between wood columns that create a more intimate space within a vast one and they are movable to change with the exhibits.

1/3 presented with a more modern look to it.

1/3 presented and this more of a centralized plan with some ideas of elevations.

1/3 that we presented floor plans, this is a traditional colonial layout which started the whole mess.

Now pushing the different organizations  into forms.

Bubble diagrams trying to figure out which form of organization goes with parti.

Final Process

Here are some pictures from the sketchup model and drawing from final boards.

snow break

Here is some process for our snow sculpture contest.  We wanted to go for a structure that described these words:  tension, shear, balance, overpowering, inferiority, powerful, and dynamic.  A process sketch of ideas.
As a group we really like how the triangle hangs over when a person would go right next to it.  Also how it seems substantial and light as you walk around it to see how thing it is.  There is also tension created by the way that the sphere is balancing act of holding up the triangle.  Also the sphere looks like it could come rolling down.
Some construction detail in elevation form.

SketchUp model for the first presentation.

.....more process.....

Some more process on the project, while working on snow symposium
This is looking at how circulation (laid over openings) would work both around the floor as well as vertically up to the widows walk.

Openings of the different spaces. I want lots of natural lighting as well as people in the spaces to be able to be accessible to lots of openings.

This is an idea of how I want the outdoor spaces to look like.  I want to have an educational space on the (west side) just outside the exhibition space.  Then another one on the (south side) that would go along with the social aspect of the program, but can also be used other times too.

Process 9-24-10 continued...

Sketch up model-used this to figure out how the different spaces would come together at intersection points.

Process 9-24-10

My location is right next to Eastern Point Lighthouse.  It is not open to the public, but people come to it and park to go fishing out on the breakwater.  I felt that the location was good because of the relationship between boats and lighthouses.  Vessels depend on lighthouses to make dangers aware to them.
My parti is about depending on one another and counting and supporting each other.  Coming together to do something not able to be done by oneself.

This is my new process.  After trying to go with a traditional way and struggling with it.  Everything was ending up too symmetrical and not what I was wanting so I went in a different direction of traditional.

Plan- concept was to go with individual spaces and use the void space between and use it as a connecting space.  There are 4 spaces that have a traditional form to them and then the void/connecting space will be of glass enclosure.
Sections-

Elevations-

Model-was to get a 3D perception of it.  Can get a sense of the 4 traditional spaces and how they relate to each other.  The colored cardboard represents the glass void/connecting space, which will also be able to use the roof for an observation area which would tie into the idea of a "widow's walk."  "Widow's walk" use to be used by wives of sailors to watch for their boats to come back from sea.

Warm up Project: School Bus Redo

My board from our warm up project.  The problem to solve was to create living quarters out of a school bus, with an observation deck on the roof.  Had a little fun with materiality with pop cans.

Plan view of my design of the school bus.

Section view of the school bus.

Interior sketch of the dining/sleeping area along with the stairs and wall of bathroom.
Overall it was a fun warm up project that wasn't stressful and just fun to come up with.
